Jerry Zucker, director of My Best Friend’s Wedding, Naked Gun, Airplane and many others, has produced a TV commercial advocating embryonic stem cell research. His daughter has juvenile diabetes. The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill today that would expand federal funding for embryonic stem cell research, but President Bush, who figures prominently in the commercial, has promised to veto it.
apparently these scientists dont know what sanctity means. youre not supposed to take a fertilized egg which is outside of a womans body and discard, put it back into a womans body, or make stem cells out of the embryo. if scientists have a problem with discarding fertilized eggs,if human life is so important to them why fertilize an egg outside of a females body with a needle and then decide that they value human life too much to discard them,i totally disagree with this commercial and think for once president bush is correct about something. it doesnt take a genius to see that this is wrong

Embryonic stem cells have been around for as long as other kinds of stem cells, and have been studied extensively. However, while other types of stem cells have been found to be useful, not so with embryonic stem cells. In fact, embryonic stem cells have a nasty habit of producing tumors in many tests. Why should we be clamoring for the government to pour money into an area of stem cell research that has shown no return on investment so far?
All the hype about the “potential” of embryonic stem cells is like that guy selling snake oil out of the back of his wagon. “It’ll cure anything!” we’re told, but so far the scientific evidence is that it doesn’t cure anything, and actually has a better chance of making you sicker.

First off, have you ever been to a snake oil funeral? They are a blast.
Second off, the purpose of the scientific research is to determine definitively what we can and can’t do with them [embryonic stem cells]. I would like to see this scientific research you are talking about which has proven emphirically that no matter what we do with the embryonic stem cells that they will cause cancer.
Third off, the point of the commercial was to highlight the wasteful nature brought about by the current regulations on fertility clinics. Scientists want to play with the embryos either through some extreme form of paedophilia or because they believe that some research they do will help more people than embryos they destroy. I’ll agree with you that the possibility of embryonic stem cell research yeilding useful results is slim. Almost as slim as skin cancer being cured by me urinating on somebody. But the possibility still exists, and that is what they are banking on. Its also why there has been a rash of cancer patients complaining about being urinating on in my area.

Shows the ignorance of the pro-stem cell group who have been too easily sold a bunch of baloney about the ‘promise’ of stem cell research.
I only wish that I could hope that leaders would see such an obvious message, but sadly they could watch this ten times and would still be blinded by their own egos and outdated and wicked religious dogmas.
