Resveratrol. Is it the answer?

March 10, 2009 by mcole

60 Minutes ran a segment about the health benefits of red wine, specifically the apparent powers of resveratrol, a polyphenol that is found in the skin of grapes and is thought to prevent illness and promote longevity (the Brain Fitness Blog reported on this a few months ago). Resveratrol is said to have a role in preventing clots and is believed to inhibit the production of LDL cholesterol. The 60 Minutes episode highlighted the work of Dr. Christoph Westphal and Harvard biochemist David Sinclair, whose research suggests that resveratrol can delay the aging process and prevent many gerontological diseases. A few years ago, scientists reported that resveratrol may discourage the onset of one such illness, Alzheimer’s. It is also claimed that this antioxidant can boost stamina, reduce lung inflammation stemming from chronic pulmonary disease, and help stave off cancer. Scientists in Cambridge, Massachusetts, also say that they’ve isolated the chemical and given it to mice. The mice given high doses of Resveratrol were able to run farther, didn’t gain as much weight, and lived 20% longer.

Most of the as-seen-on-tv resveratrol websites with the 60 Minutes video and "free trial" offers never disclose the ingredients of their products. They also charge exorbitant prices compared to other legitimate resveratrol vendors. Resvrevu.com compares prices from legitimate vendors and has info on other herbs with longevity properties.

Resveratrol capsules may enable us to absorb the essential amino acids and vital nutrients that would ensure the complete well being of our bodies. Taking this interesting compound as a dietary supplement activates the longevity gene, which means, we live longer. We have long been searching for the fountain of youth, and well, I guess this is one step closer. People spend thousands of dollars for plastic surgery. Compared to the dollars you have to shell out on these treatments, trying out a natural supplement seems to be a safer, healthier and less expensive option. I also think that having dietary supplements containing this antioxidant is very convenient, especially for people who are always on the go and for people who opt not to drink wine.

Resveratrol Plus Rx has a formula that contains a natural balance of the most scientifically effective ingredients which allow you to achieve the most impactful life changing results. For a risk free trial offer with no strings attached, visit our website today!
Go ahead. Give it a shot. You'll be amazed by the results.

The resveratrol spplement I took made me so dizzy I couldn't walk after getting out of bed. Thankfully , after about a week or so, I figured out what it could be, stopped taking the resveratrol and the problem was gone. I have no idea why it did this. I had previously taken a different brand of resveratrol for about 2 months and had no side effects. I switched to a cheaper brand and that's when the dizziness started. The brand that made me dizzy was made by "now".

After seeing such good Resveratrol reviews on Barbara Walters and on the 60 Minutes show, I had to try the Risk FREE Trial of Resveratrol, specially since it gets rid of free radicals, clears wrinkles, boosts the immune system while also helping to loose weight in a natural way by burning the fat and increasing the metabolism.

i tried this risk free trial and they charged my credit card a fortune. DON"T do it people. Not that big of a deal by annoying thank god Amex loves to reverse charges for me. I spend alot with them. I buy now from a smaller retailer on eBay called momEmedia. I would try her service out. She sells high quality supplements on eBay. There are too many scams out there and it's getting worse. google momEmedia and you will see her in your google search, a friend referred me to her ebay store and i get my omega3 fish oils from her as well. I like Nordic Naturals for that and Integrative Theraputics for my resveratrol. After watching 60 minutes I began searching for my supplier....that's when i ran into the idiot's...total joke....the seller i mentioned actually answers her email what seems like 24/7....and i get my product in acouple days. I have lost 10 lbs in 6 weeks which is good for me.

Hi everyone!

Do you believe in resveratrol? Well, it's nice to believe in the "miracle pill" but actually it never happened to me. I tried it for three weeks I didn't loose any weight! I didn't look younger! on the contrary I felt worse! Dizzy! sleepless! God knows what it has done to my body! Oprah should try it on herself before she does the big "Advertisement" of this "miracle pill" we are not mice!

Wake up they are after your money! Eat healthy and exercise!

Like many people, there are speculations. Although this supplement shows much promise, it is still too young in its studies to be 100% sure on the effect. On the other hand, red wine has been promoted as heart healthy for years now, so maybe there is a correlation? http://www.resveratrolyes.com

The Promise of Resveratrol

The wonder ingredient in wine is indeed resveratrol. The current studies performed by researchers have shown great promise for resveratrol treating the diseases of aging. There are numerous articles that I have linked to at my website - http://resveratrol.webiage.com - that document the findings for the potential health benefits in treating heart disease, cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, obesity, and other diseases.
Dr. Joseph Maroon, a neurosurgeon, has written a book entitled "The Longevity Factor, How Resveratrol and Red Wine Activate Genes for a Longer and Healthier Life" that offers a definitive look at recent scientific breakthroughs in the study of resveratrol and how research has shown its ability to stave off a wide variety of age-related diseases.
Concerning supplements containing a high quality and potency of resveratrol that is necessary to achieve the dosage levels utilized in the lab tests, there is a new product called Vivix. Shaklee Corporation, the number one natural nutrition company in the U.S. (http://www.shaklee.com/index.shtml), has produced a liquid resveratrol supplement that is 10 times stronger than resveratrol alone due to its patented formulation of polyphenols.
Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Oz are both users and promoters of Shaklee products and Oprah has featured Roger Barnett, Chairman and CEO of Shaklee (http://www.shaklee.com/company_lead_ceo.shtml), on her show.
So for a highly researched resveratrol supplement of exceptional quality, please visit - http://www.shaklee.net/davidhynes/vivix - to discover more about Vivix.

You're right about muscadine grapes man, but what I'm waiting for is a super-pill, to cramp all of those helpful antioxidants into a once-daily, super pill to help fight off disease and other health related problems. I'm also looking for resveratrol to get more powerful within the next decade or so. It's definitely a neat time to be alive.

Resveratrol and Red Wine

I also appreciated seeing the video mentioned in the previous comment. The folks at Sirtris are working hard on developing great resveratrol drugs.

I think it's important to remember that antioxidants do their job once they've been introduced to an environment with free radicals present. So make sure you're taking a supplement that has taken care to prevent oxiation prior to your ingestion. For instance, if you're going to use red wine as your supplement, get the boxed kind to prevent oxygen getting into the bottle. And look for pills sold in blister packs (like Sudafed).

My site, benefits-of-resveratrol.com, about resveratrol benefits is an information only site about some of these topics. I'll look into adding the Science Blog video, which I don't have yet.

If you're doing research, keep reading sites like this blog and others to stay abreast of all the latest information.

Dr. Sinclair mentioned it would take 1,000 bottles per day to get the most benefit from red wine. Taking Resveratrol supplements is an alternative to drinking too much wine.
