"Gravity Probe B" was not a failure.

June 17, 2008

donzzz's picture

It was expensive lesson but "Gravity Probe B" was not a failure - NASA and science simply learned there is no "frame-dragging" or "space-time fabric" and Einstein's General Theory has another weakspot (his "Principle of Equivalence" is the big one).

The Falling Galaxies within the Finite Universe.

May 16, 2008

donzzz's picture

The size of the universe is determined by the laws of nature. Where these laws end, at the boundary, the universe ends, space itself ends - nothing can exist beyond the border. All the matter and energy that strike the boundary are absorbed. At the same time new massless matter is created to replace the absorbed matter.

Human Imagination - The "Homo Imaginative Sapiens" Special Sense.

May 12, 2008

donzzz's picture

Human Imagination' has allowed mankind to delve into the secrets of the universe - to behold the wonders of the nature. It is our Special Sense - it created the "Mind" of mankind!
This "seventh sense" gives humans the ability to visualize things within our mind that has not yet occurred or may never occur - to imagine. It is not vital to our survival - the Neanderthals survived remarkably well without this "seventh sense".

More "Green" Power from the Mighty Niagara River.

May 4, 2008

donzzz's picture

A huge construction project has been taking place in Niagara Falls, Ontario since 2005. The Mighty Niagara river's energy output, far from being completely tapped out, is again being tapped for a tremendous additional amount of new electrical (hydro) power. The new 6.4 mile tunnel will run under the City of Niagara Falls, Ontario from the upper Niagara River to the Sir Adam Beck Power Stations at Queenston at a maximum depth of 140 meters (459 feet).

The Pioneer Anomaly

April 28, 2008

donzzz's picture

For long journeys into deep space, such as to Pioneer 10 and 11 rocket journeys, scientists will have to take into consideration, the new corrected gain in mass, (and therefore gravitational attraction) caused by the force of the rocket engines and Jupiter's gravity, during its acceleration, into their calculations.

The Apollo 15 test of Galileo's ball dropping experiment, on the moon.

February 3, 2008

Little did Galileo dream that his famous experiment would be tested on the moon some day. The experiment once again "proved" that gravity causes objects of different weights to accelerate at the same rate, as they fall.

"The Accelerating Galaxies"

January 23, 2008

Learning that the galaxies were accelerating was completely unexpected since the cosmologists thought they would find them coasting or slowing.

The Metaphysical World of Human Imagination

January 12, 2008

"Metaphysical" means: Going beyond the physical world that we can discern with our senses, into the mysterious supernatural world where only human imagination can venture.

Absolute Space

November 14, 2007

donzzz's picture

Absolute Space has no direction, or geometry (Euclidean or Riemmanian) it is all one, there is no part of absolute space. When you speak of coordinates or references you are not speaking of space itself you are speaking of points or lines within space - not absolute space itself.

The Geophysical Effects of the Earth's Slowing Rotation!

October 20, 2007

donzzz's picture

When the Earth was very young, its faster rotation caused it to have a much larger equatorial circumference than it has at the present time. It was spinning fast enough to have a "Saturn type ring" around it.

Einstein's Thought Experiment.

October 13, 2007

donzzz's picture

"An astronaut in an accelerating rocket will feel the same effect as if he were standing on earth." This is true but it is not because gravity and inertia are equivalent, it because these two conditions produce the same effect, WEIGHT.

The Black Hole Myth

October 7, 2007

donzzz's picture

The existence of Black Holes is based on the idea that gravity can influence (bend) light rays in some manner. It is a simple premise - can a strong source of gravity effect light rays as they pass by, even though photons have no mass?? This has been a favorite enigma of comologists and other scientists for many years.

The Many Motions of Planet Earth.

September 27, 2007

donzzz's picture

All Motion is Relative - to something else. To describe the motion of any body at least two points of reference must be taken into account.
When comparing the motion of a body with space alone there is no other reference - therefore the body's motion is always zero.

The "Laws of Nature"

September 26, 2007

donzzz's picture

What are the "Laws of Nature" composed of? Are they matter or energy?
If not, then what? Do they exist apart from the universe?

Olbers's Paradox - Why is the sky dark at night?

September 21, 2007

donzzz's picture

Olbers thought that if the universe was infinitely large and infinitely old no matter what direction we looked we would see a star and therefore the night should not be dark. But it is - and that is the paradox.

About us

Science Blog was started in August 2002. It lives, breathes and eats press releases from research organizations around the globe. Most of what you read here are press releases from the outfits named in the stories themselves. Got a news story you think belongs here? Let's talk. The other half of the equation is blog posts from readers like you. So if you have an interest in science, please register and join others like you in an ongoing, vibrant dialog about what makes the world tick.
