What this boils down to is that scientists are human too, and have human faults. But what is special about science is that it makes a serious attempt to minimize the effects of our self-interest and give honest answers. This is the only field of endeavor I know of which does this. Some, like politics and religion seem to actively discourage this sort of thing. Which probably explains why science makes so much more progress than other fields.
