Welcome to the puzzle, Iam not a UFOologist, I am a college grad in Education, currently teaching. How did the former American GI "remember" his story? I don't know, I do know he had a unbeliveable story that disturbed him. Leaving that tale aside consider that I have been to Taos,New Mexico area, there I met a retired county sherrif who claimed she saw a spacecraft for lack of a better word, that was leaving just moments before her arrival at a cattle ranch where a horrible cattle mutilation took place. She saw the ship zip away. Did she make the story up? I can't tell you for a fact. But, I trusted her calm manner in which she explained a strange event she witnessed.
On another occassion, I spoke with a former east Colorado sherrif who was a brother of my friend who had seen UFO's and his share of cattle mutilations. But it was as a teacher that an otherwise reserved young lady in my tenth grade class told me she saw a classic "little green man" while working one afternoon with her family in a Mexican cornfield. I won't go into details other than to say everyone ran away on that acciendental encounter. Maybe, you're in need of an experience.
