Motor and generator are made up of same components. When Electric current is passed into the motor, mechanical rotations of the coil results. When the coil in the generator is rotated, Eletric current appears in the coil. So Electric motor is the converse device of generator. (Scroll down for comments)

We own a Toyota Prius, which has electromagnetic braking – the electric motor driving the wheels is used as a generator to slow the car. As the car slows, or if the pedal is pushed rapidly ordinary brakes take over.
