So I share <A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.cinastro.org\/Blog\/2011\/03\/06\/dr-jim-elliot-discoverer-teacher-mentor-and-friend\/\" \/>this obituary of Jim Elliot<\/A>, who was planetary astronomer Heidi Hammel&#8217;s mentor. I never met him, but his kindness was apparent through e-mails exchanged during and after my writing of <A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.fredbortz.com\/HammelBio\">Heidi&#8217;s biography in the Women&#8217;s Adventures in Science series.<\/A><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Other books where I address that theme are<\/p>\n<p><A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.fredbortz.com\/YoungScientist.htm\"><em>To the Young Scientist: Reflections on Doing and Living Science<\/em><\/A> (Franklin Watts, 1997)<\/p>\n<p>and<\/p>\n<p><A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.fredbortz.com\/WeatherWatch.htm\"><em>Dr. Fred&#8217;s Weather Watch: Create and Run Your Own Weather Station<\/em><\/A> (McGraw-Hill, 2000), which was based on a state second-prize-winning science fair project by collaborator J.
