Were I, like Adam, choiced by evil snake
\nThat fruit of knowledge I might free partake
\nOr, spurning insight, might forever be,
\nAnd dwell in vast, obscure eternity\u2026<\/p>\n
By two such options I\u2019d be sorely torn\u2014
\n\u2019Twas not for blind submission I was born.
\nInfinity sans knowledge is no prize,
\nWhile light that fades to black before mine eyes
\nIs destiny no man would freely choose,
\nFor what we have is all we have to lose.<\/p>\n
Posed thus, \u2019tis plain: rebellion is my path\u2014
\nI\u2019ll risk the flaming ire of God\u2019s own wrath,
\nHis knowledge, freely giv\u2019n is not so dear
\nAs what by our own efforts we make clear.<\/p>\n
With tools of science I\u2019ll investigate
\nThe logic of this world and mine own fate;
\nWhile passions I will equally devote
\nTo quest for health, and death\u2019s own antidote.<\/p>\n
