To be or Notch to be: Notch regulation of cell fate in your gut

Two papers were published in Nature last week. One, shows how Notch activation is capable of amplifying the intestinal progenitor pool while inhibiting cell differentiation. The other paper inhibits Notch activation resulting in a massive conversion of the proliferative crypt cells into goblet cells. These papers further define the role of Notch in regulating proliferation and cell fate in the intestinal epithelium and are worth reading. I’ll review them at ScienceNerdDepot in the next week or so.
