The oldest language

Linguists debate whether all languages are descended from a common ancestor. This can't be completely true, since many sign languages have been invented out of whole cloth in modern time (Nicaraguan sign is a famous example), as was, to a meaningful extent, Hawaiian Pidgin.
However, students of history know from the ancient Greek historian Herodotus that Phrygian is the first language. According to his writings, an Egyptian king by the name of Psammetichus ordered that two children "of the ordinary sort" be raised in an isolated cabin without exposure to language. At the age of two or so, the children began to speak Phrygian, which was taken as proof that Phrygian, not Egyptian, is the world's earliest language.
This study is a great example of why experiments need to be replicated before they are taken too seriously.

Well its obvious that most of the people in this thread are pseudo braniacs. The topic is not what Indian language is oldest but what is the oldest in the world in terms of spoken phonetically. The micro crisis that seems to arise here is that none of the people in this thread (including some people who are clearly white and perhaps even inbred) understand or write english very well. Now if youre going to comment on something someone has read, at least have the decency to check whether your comment is pertaining to the topic.
And yes we all know Wikipedia and many indian sites exist where most of the information posted below is probably given so that it may be conveniently copy-pasted. And BTW im Indian.

First of all, india is not the one producing the terrorists, its pakistan and Afghanistan. And the only reason they are terrorists is because of big stupid Americans, who drive pickup trucks and think they can afford to buy a 60 inch tv when they are defaulting on several mortgage payments. Tamil is the mother language of all South Indian Languages, Tamils have DNA ties to Australian Aborigines (one of the oldest communities in the world). Tamils believe in a Sunken Landmass known as Kumari Kandam which was connected to South India, Africa and Australia, that's where the Tamil and Dravidians came from. Sri Lanka holds caves older then 30,000 years. No other language is as old as this and living as this. We Tamils have thousands of years of rich Tamil literature. Our Language is ancient. So, therefore I think Tamil is the oldest language in India today, and maybe one of the oldest languages in the world. Tamils are also believed to be the founders of the Indus Valley Civilization. 3rd Oldest civilization in the world. DNA evidence showed that a whole Tamil village in Tamil Nadu has inhabitants who's DNA goes over 70,000 years ago, scientists believe that's when the first Humans from Africa migrated to India. India itself has over 100 languages all old and ancient and sacred. India is a sacred country, stop putting it down, stick with facts not no extinct African Language.

Tamil is the first language to have written account and grammar, i think there are 247 letter are in tamil, each letter have clear and you can feel different pronounce of each letter. There are more than 30 accent , tamil language is 8000 years old(5200b.c-4800b.c). Three r four years back Sumerian consider as oldest language with written and grammar account, but recently one oldest temple was found near south part of tamil nadu, archeologist found that was a sivan temple, which is 4000years oldest, in that temple it clearly suggest that the language is much older that before estimted, because they wrote the words in wall of temple , how it constructed, and they wrote about how they select the minister by vote method. i'm not joking its true 2000years back in some part of tamil nadu(maduranthagam) the minister were elected by people only. The writen style of tamil is changed century by century. near chennai(thiruvallur) itself some 1,50,000-2,00,000 years oldest cave were found by british archeologist in 1900s... this was oldest man made cave and these people who lived were, spread in the region on tamil nadu and india, these people lived near the village of thiruvallur and madurai region were more than 8500 years, but moved and spread slowly to kerala, srilanka, burma and indonesia. they are give birth to tamil language and this is first in the world..near hyderabad old bodies date 20000 years old and there DNA match with people lived in thiruvallur and madurai region... stupit english people hided this research every thing in those days of 1900 and they dont hve more technology to found this, and after 1930's another set of british archeologist reopened and made more discoverys on this cave, recently in burma archeologist found some pots containing alphabets in tamil which is dated 7000 - 5000years old... it suggest tamil people travelled to indo-china and indonesia for trade or search for new land eg: in 1240A.D again some kings started moving to cambodia and the ancestor were tamil people, people of burma call bay of begal as " chola lake" because chola is one of greatest tamil ruler dynasty, who were ruled indonesia .. romans made trade with tamil people is also proved both in india region and roman region... lot of temple were under the bay of bengal near mahaballipurum which dated more than 2000 years....

Anyone may say that their language as the oldest,purest,……so on and so on………..if that is really true,then why did the modifications went on………just understand “This material life is subjected to continuous changes……….Geetha summary “.So there is no point for anyone to say, only his/her language is the oldest or purest and so on……….May this dispute of oldest language end very soon.May there be a day when all of us respect each other’s and our own culture….God kept “unity in diversity” not for unwanted nonsense disputes……

History says the oldest city in India is Kashi & almost equally Shiva Kanchi not even Bhagyanagar, Madurai, Hampi, Hastinapur, Prayag, Hiranyaksha Nagari. (now its Multan). Every civilisations is taken birth in bank of river its proven. Kashi is in river bank of Ganga. for Kanchi it was Kaveri river it use to go through Kanchi join sea some ware in Andra Pradesh . Now its been diverted to other route which ends Pondicherry. so there is no chance for any king or kingdom to survive apart from this earlier route. We can find only Kanchi through out the route. Ancient Kanchi was populated by Tamil Iyers & handful non Iyer Tamilians, only to serve the Iyers. This Iyers ware brilliant they enlighten by Brahma Gyan they made Tamil calender . white Tamils are different form black Tamils in there culture. so where dose the black people come from how did they become the majority the Tamils? . There are tow different roots for Tamil one which born in India the other one from Lanka. Poulstya the family of Ravana they made the Lankan Tamil. This black Tamils are natural Islanders form Lanka. If the man starts eat different kind of food & move into different region then only his younger generations get change by skin tone & body built. Black Tamils has struck up in Lanka for long years. After Ram defeating Raavana the bridge wasn't destroyed those black people traveled a crossed bridge find the place in Madurai. And they stared Dominating & Crucifying Sri Vaishnava. Lankans they always against Sri Hari & did the same in India after get settled, its how these two Tamils get merged. Few Malayalam people clam that Tamil has made from Malayali (what we now). Later thy realised that there are very less words from Sanskrit then they made correction of Tamil & called Malayalam. Even if Listening to Hale Kannada & Telugu its not related to Tamil as it's relates to Sanskrit. There ware 64 kingdom at the time of Mahabharata they have mention all 64 kingdom in t hat we can find Malayala on ware we can find Tamil in it. Tamils says Islam never attack Tamil Nabu but its saved by Shivaji &Shahaji twice. Tamils will never aspect Predictions &
never Agree with evidence against Tamil.

Do you know about Tamil sangam. Is not in kanchi are else were. It was in Kumari Kandam. The orgin of tamil is from Kumari Kandam. All white peoples are came from Middle East Asia and learn our Tamil.

regarding the argument of the oldest language on earth the fact is there is no conclusion as of yet and please for your information both Ramayana and Mahabaratha are epics not a biography. epic meaning not something that happened it is like a story to get it more simple like the small moral stories we tell young kids as to how the crow threw stones in a pot to get the water higher and so on , similarly these epics are moral stories for bigger people...so your arguments saying ravana lanka those people hateing white tamils...black tamils...all those stories are baseless.....and also trueis that the oldest tamil literature 'tholkapiyam' whiich is yet to be dated hence answering the question of tamil language and how old it is....and stop trying to prove facts with ramayana and mahabaratha as there are mere moral stories......a language is dated based on its literary works and the references in them and the material type of inscription style and a lot more.....so far carbon dating method has concluded there are 3 languages that might be the oldest but they are not sure which one and how ol the languages are chienese(cantonese) , hebrew and tamil.....and one more thing iyers are from aryan civilisation and tamils are from dravidian so there is no such thing as tamil iyers telling someone tamil iyer is like saying tht car is maruthi indica...both are different.....so the question remains unanswered all we have is a group of possible answers but one thing is for sure sanskirt , telugu and other indian languages excepting tamil can be ruled out and so can western languages and greeks too.....most likely the answer will be from an aisan or middle easter nation.
