First Entry

My name is Ian and I’m starting a PhD shortly.

My project, which officially begins on October 1st, is based around evolutionary ecology, and will involve testing predictions from this field on human reproductive behaviour using large demographic data sets. One of the things I will be looking at in particular will be the relationships between childhood environment and adult reproductive behaviour.

I have registered with Science Blog because it seems like it might be a good forum for exchanging ideas with other members of the scientific community. Particularly with a project like mine that is inherently interdisciplinary in nature, such exchange can enhance the standard and broaden the scope of research, and is something I am particularly looking forward to taking part in.

In addition to this, it will be good practice for me to regularly communicate with people outside both my department and the immediate scientific community. Research into human behaviour is always very interesting to the general public, and as such, it is a good idea for me to be able to respond to that interest in a manner which is responsible, accurate, and satisfying for all parties.

I hope that this is an appropriate forum for achieving these objectives. If anyone has any thoughts, I would greatly appreciate some initial feedback.
