  19. Excuse me! Two of the 34 words are with vowels which are the 1st word Ay and ninths word gyve . In both these words a and e are present so these words are not constant. So, I think that you have only 32 words left which are which vowels and I think so that there also semi-constants.

    The longest word is TWYNDYLLYNGS

    Twyndyllyngs is the longest word in English that doesn’t contain one of the five vowels (AEIOU). It comes from Welsh and is obviously rare, but it does appear in the Oxford English Dictionary.

    It turns out that “twyndyllyng” (singular) is a 15th century spelling of the word “twinling,” which means, in modern English, “twin.”

When there are no other vowels in the word or in the sylable that the Y is in then Y is to stand in and be a vowel. There are a few words that do not have vowels in them at all and they may not be considered words to some but these are the only ones out there, here you go:

  81. Crwth, cwm, and nth are all real English words that do not contain A, E, I, O, U, or Y. W acts as the vowel in crwth and cwm, and as for nth, I’m not so sure… maybe N is the vowel?

    But I’m POSITIVE those are all real words, and I’m pretty sure those are the only ones. But maybe there are others?

  92. I’m very sorry but since my primary school teacher told me there are no words in the English language without vowels I have been torturing myself to prove her wrong. There are quite a few and everybody knows there are only 5 of them AEIOU. Not Y and not W just five (5). I am 41 years old now!

    The Y in Yogurt is not a vowel. The Y in Happy is a vowel, even though there is another vowel. How many vowels there are in a word has no effect on whether Y is a vowel.

    Likewise some might even know how to spell foreign or that America is a name and therefore needs a capital letter. Likewise in the context used in your last sentence you should have used you’re.

  147. You’re right in the fact that Y is not a vowel in some cases. But in pretty much EVERY single word used in the list above, it IS used as a vowel. In, for example, the word ‘Yellow’ Y is not a vowel. But in the words ‘Why’ ‘Cry’ and ‘Dye’, ‘Y’ is used as a vowel.

    Before calling anyone a “retard” you should perhaps run your spell check…or maybe refer to a dictionary. Here in America, by the way, no one says “damb”. We also use the word “foreign” not “forien”. Also, here in America (and if I’m not mistaken, generally in the English language), dose refers to the dosage of, lets say, medicine. I believe the word your little brain was trying to provide was “does”. As far as your question to the general public “(also how dose it feel to be stupider than a second grader?)”, I believe you have proven to be the best qualified to answer that yourself.   159. Actually, if you do any research on the subject, ‘Y’ is indeed considered to be a vowel in BOTH of the instances in which you used it. In fact, it has been taught in many schools (you can further do research on this, if you so choose), that the letter ‘W’ is also a vowel, so the words of welsh origin “cwm”, for example, DO, in fact, have a vowel in them. I have been so far unable, however, to find out the current status of the letter ‘W’, and whether it can be considered to be a vowel or not. (The most convining arguement I’ve heard thus far has been that ‘W’ is considered a vowel in a word when it is not followed by another vowel, which the exception of the letter ‘H’ [such as when, why, etc], such as how, saw, and dew). Honestly, before you go around telling people not to be idiots, you might want to do a little research yourself.

  170. i believe you forgot a few, most notably, “nth” as in to the nth degree. others are called onomatopoeias or onomatopœias(in Greek). They are any WORD that describes a sound, such as Bang. But the ones with no vowels are ones such as, BRR, BRRR, HM, HMM, MM, PFFT, PHPHT, PHT, PSST, SH, SHH, TSK, TSKS, TSKTSK, TSKTSKS, ZZZ’S

  218. ‘Y’ is sometimes a vowel, but only if it is by itself in a word, like ‘fry’. Every word has a vowel, unless you’re stupid an are thinking of things like ‘TV’. That’s an abbreveation! So, let’s take ‘Yard’, for instance. Notice that ‘a’ is the main vowel in this, so when there is a main vowel, ‘y’ is not a vowel. ‘Y’ is only used when no other vowel is present.
