NASA criticised for stifling drunkenness reports

From http://www.newscientist.com

The whistleblowers who anonymously reported that astronauts flew drunk were too afraid to tell NASA during a follow-up investigation, says the author of the report that first brought the claims to light.

If true, the issue highlights a continuing problem for NASA, which has been accused of stifling dissenting opinions from employees in the past.

Colonel Richard E Bachmann of the US Air Force, who chaired a panel that in July reported that astronauts were allowed to fly drunk), stood by the claims during a hearing at the space and aeronautics subcommittee of the US House of Representatives on Thursday.
