Indiana University announced new criteria for its Automatic Academic Scholarships today (June 1) for students applying for 2010 fall admission to the Bloomington campus. Expecting to enroll the most academically talented class in university history and award the largest number of scholarships ever, IU has increased criteria slightly to coincide with the increasing abilities of incoming freshmen.
Personalized e-mails will go to prospective students throughout the U.S. and around the world notifying them of the new standards for Automatic Academic Scholarships at IU.
Nov. 1, 2009, is the application priority date for maximum scholarship consideration at IU.
“Interest in Indiana University from the best and brightest high school students continues to be extremely high,” said Sarah Booher, director of scholarships at IU Bloomington. “IU’s most significant enrollment growth since the Automatic Academic Scholarships were introduced two years ago has been among scholarship-eligible students, particularly Indiana residents earning the IU Excellence Scholarship. We expect this trend to continue.”
Admitted students are automatically considered for these scholarships based upon their academic information at the time of admission. The new online application for 2010 fall admission will become available on Aug. 3, 2009, on the new Office of Scholarships Web site at http://scholarships.indiana.edu/ .
“While many colleges and universities have been forced to cut back on scholarships due to the impact of this economy, Indiana University has not,” Booher said. “IU remains committed to student scholarships, and we are offering more scholarships than we ever have.”
Along with the online application, the new Web site will feature a countdown to the Nov. 1 priority date for maximum scholarship consideration, a Scholar Blogs page, and a podcast in Spanish about scholarship opportunities. Additional information about IU scholarships and qualifying criteria also can be found at this site.
The IU Office of Scholarships also administers the Selective Scholarship Application, which provides eligible students the opportunity to apply for scholarships from the Hudson and Holland Scholars Program, the Hutton Honors College, the Cox Research Scholars Program, the Kelley School of Business, the School of Informatics, the School of Journalism and the College of Arts and Sciences.
All students who are admitted to IU are considered for selective scholarship eligibility, and those who meet initial criteria will receive the Selective Scholarship Application in their admission packet. The application must be completed according to the date specified for further consideration.
