Day or Night

There are two kinds of plants short-day plants and long-day plants. Short day plants need to have a long night and because of this they flower during early spring/fall.
Long-day plants need short night periods and because of this they flower in the summer.
So i guess there was always more to that day light savings time in gaining an hour and losing an hour. I believe It is the fall when we gain an hour of sleep which would benefit the short-day plants. It is is the spring or summerish we lose an hour of sleep.
How does a plant know its night out?
well it uses phytochrome which is a photorecetor it absorbs red light. So when the sun is out it captures great amounts of red light but when the sun is away this photoreceptor is not at work.

Superman isn’t the whole person that needs red light.
