The oldest language

Linguists debate whether all languages are descended from a common ancestor. This can’t be completely true, since many sign languages have been invented out of whole cloth in modern time (Nicaraguan sign is a famous example), as was, to a meaningful extent, Hawaiian Pidgin.

However, students of history know from the ancient Greek historian Herodotus that Phrygian is the first language. According to his writings, an Egyptian king by the name of Psammetichus ordered that two children “of the ordinary sort” be raised in an isolated cabin without exposure to language. At the age of two or so, the children began to speak Phrygian, which was taken as proof that Phrygian, not Egyptian, is the world’s earliest language.

This study is a great example of why experiments need to be replicated before they are taken too seriously.

  1. These tamil verses tell us about its glory.

    Agam endrum puram endrum vazhvai azhagaaga vaguthalithu, aadhi ANDAM illathu irukindra iniya mozhi, Oodhi valarum uyiraana ulaga mozhi namm mozhi.. namm mozhi… adhuve…

    [It a sweet language with no known beginning or end and it beautifully splits and explains the way we need to lead our personal and public life, It’s a language that’s close to our heart and its ever widely spoken language..It’s our language.. and that is..]

    There is no beginning or end for a circle. “Aadhi Andham Illathathu”. All other things have a beginning and an end.

    Only in the later stage of Islamic history that the Sufis tried to not only imitate Muhammad but also attempted to seek the spiritual experience.[16] The ideas of Union with God or ittihād (اتحاد) in Sufism are akin to Aikyavāda (aikiyam) in Saivism (சேர்தல், கலத்தல், ஆகுதல்). The spirit of mysticism in these two religious traditions can be appreciated from these identical utterances of two eighth century mystics of Saivism and Islam. For it is said: “All mystics speak the same language, for they come from the same country” (Saint Martin).[17]

  2. @tunno lal, thanks for your comment for including Tamil also as the oldest language.Even though you had said that Sanskrit as the oldest language in India,which is not acceptable for me.i appreciate at least one or two people like you have accepted that Tamil as the oldest language along with Sanskrit.Because of jealousy most of the people are not accepting Tamil as the oldest language.

      when they have completly changed the whole concept of “faith” and introduced thousands of AVATARS in india we can not sit and argue with them. hihihi……its waste of time and energy.

      PAKALAVAN……….pakal+avan……..daylight+He…brightness+God.

      This word pakalavan has been changed using “bha” sound and bhagawan was introduced. Then we can say most of them use their brain in a very very cunning manner and they have the capacity to fool the whole universe.

  3. Sanskrit is the oldest language in the world, please see references below.

    Vedic Sanskrit is the oldest attested language of the Indo-Iranian language family. It is the language of the Vedas, the oldest Shruti texts of Hinduism, compiled over the period of the mid 4th to mid 3rd millennium BCE. It can be said that Sanskrit, Greek, Latin, Tamazight, Hebrew and Tamil are the oldest major languages which are still spoken today.

    Sanskrit was also suggested as the best language for use in Computational Linguistics and Artificial Intelligence by NASA. It is the only language in the world which is scientifically precise as was discovered by the NASA scientist Rick Briggs as published in the Artificial Intelligence Magazine
    Rick Briggs:
    “As we shall see, there was a language spoken among an ancient scientific community that has a deviation of zero. This language is Sanskrit.”

    • Dear tunno lal,

      If the sanskrit the “short hand” form of tamizh is used for all the researches as you say then it is ancient tamizh still being used. Thank you for the information. The history of tamizhakam is beyond BELIEF.

    • In tamizh we say for water “mari” “kumari” and for son of sivan the bird cock actually as “kumara”n….so, kumari is water …if kumara is cock the bird then “kumari” is the bird hen….and it is a proof that this bird has come from mari, the water…and its egg is used to denote the shape of this earth..andam in tamizh.. and inner yolk as “pindam”….so, this egg made the ancient people to understand the nature of this earth. the “karu”, the womb where the evolution starts and also if this womb explode it would lead to the destruction of lives….let me think deeply….. our earth has the “core” only one womb…no other womb to continue the life on this earth, the planet.

    Karagaattam (the folk dance of tamizh nadu)
    ==========
    Karagam is a folk dance with musical accompaniment, performed balancing a pot on the head. Traditionally, this dance was performed by the villagers in praise of the “rain goddess” Mari Amman and “river goddess”, Gangai (kan+kai) Amman, performed with literature with water pots balanced on their heads.

    Kummi
    ======
    Kummi is one of the most important and ancient forms of village dances of Tamilnadu. It originated when there were no musical instruments, with the participants clapping their hands to keep time. This is performed by women.

    Mayil Attam
    =========
    This is done by girls dressed as peacocks, resplendent with peacock feathers and a glittering headdress complete with a beak. This beak can be opened and closed with the help of a thread tied to it, and manipulated from within dress.

    Kolaattam
    ========
    Kolaattam is an ancient village art. This is mentioned in Kanchipuram as ‘Cheivaikiyar Kolaattam’, which proves its antiquity. This is performed by women only, with two sticks held in each hand, beaten to make a rhythmic noise.

    Oyil Kummi
    =========
    This is an ancient folk dance form popular in Trichy, Salem, Dharmapuri, Coimbatore and Erode. No other musical instruments are used in this dance except the ankle-bells. This dance is performed by men only, during temple festivals. Stories and episodes centering around Murugan and Valli are depicted in the songs. As one of the rare folk art forms of ancient Tamil Nadu, this is being practiced now by the Telugu speaking people of the northern districts.

    Kavadi Aattam
    ===========
    The ancient Tamils when they went on pilgrimage, carried the offerings to the gods tied on the either end of the long stick, which was balanced on the shoulders. In order to lessen the boredom of the long travel they used to sing and dance about the gods. Kavadi Aattam has its origin in this practice. Special songs were created to be sung while carrying the “KAVADI SINDHU”. This dance is performed only by men. It is done by balancing a pole with pots fixed on either end, filled with milk or cocunut water. (HERE THE WORD “SINDHU” IS GIVING US PROOF THAT WE HAVE RELATION WITH “INDUS” VALLEY)

    Poikkal Kudirai Aattam
    =================
    This is the Dummy Horse Dance where the dancer bears the dummy figure of a horse’s body on his/her hips. This is made of light-weighted materials and the cloth at the sides swings to and fro covering the legs of the dancer. The dancer dons wooden legs, which sound like the hooves of the horse. The dancer brandishes either a sword or a whip. This folk dance needs much training and skill. This dance is accompanied by Naiyandi melam or Band music. This is connected to the worship of Iyyanar, prevails manily around Thanjavur

    So, the music and dance played an important role in the life of dravidans of india.

  5. Dear Chandrasekar,

    Welcome to this blog. MANAM IRUNTHAAL MARGAM UNDU. If there is will there is a WAY. Ok. I have not so far explored the language Telungu. It is a beautiful language. Somehow sanskrit has entered in to their culture to ruin the original root words telungu. I am surprised and shocked at the same time also. So, we are not having the original words in telungu even though they are in the graveyard now. They should make them all wake up from the graveyard.

    In the same manner all kannadga as well as malayalam words should also get up from their graveyard. It is so easy to make them ALIVE. Its upto u. Since we have total 247 letters in tamizh it is not difficult for us to pronounce any word of telungu, kannada or malayalam. Just because most of the words of sanskrit the short hand form of tamizh language are mixed in all the languages it is not a tough job to prounounce them. If we explore each word we can realise they are all tamizh words. Our south indian languages are different with a merely a letter and the pronounciation is different. The style is different. It is evidant from the facts that tamizhians had contact with so many countries in the ancient time because of trade promotion. So, we should appreciate their efforts to make it possible to have connection with people from unknown countries. We dont have the historical video about their communication skills.

    ok. Now, telungu is a very very sweet language and the people are also artistic. I have appreicated Late DEVIKA (Kanaka’s mother), SAVITHRI, BHANUMATHI, SAWKAAR JANAKI, BHANUPRIYA and so many actresses in tamizh cinema who are all very very talented actresses. They are all very good dancers also.

    About kannadiga actresses, SAROJA DEVI, (kannadathhu paingili), AISHWARYA RAI (Tulu), KAUSHALYA , SHILPA SHETTY(tulu), ISHA GOPIKAAR (mangalorean konkani) and many more actresses in tamizh cinema. Also DEEPIKA PADUKONE in hindi films. I have watched Saroja Devi talking in kannada and it was fantastic to hear the tone and expression. She is a great actress.

    About Malayalam actresses, K.R.VIJAYA, (LALITA,PADMINI, RAGINI) the three sisters, the dancing queens), REVATHI, NADIYA, RADHA, AMBIKA so many actresses contributed their efforts and talent to our tamizh language. We tamizhians always feel proud to make them all shine and we welcome the talent from all over this universe.

    Even australian had acted in tamizh film. I dont know the history tamil cinema. I had the chance of watching the tele-serial an australian SULLIVAN’S family when i was young. The emotions all over the universe are same. In fact i should say all are very much obsessed with emotions. The history of an australian and their rich culture is very much emotional. We should respect the emotions of people not the colour.

    Ok…English is a piractical language with a long history of plundering other tongues and making off with their words, then i think for a tamizhian it is not a tough job to absorb the vocabulary of TELUNGU language.

    Thanks for making me use my brain to think about telungu language. We can create magic my learning all the south indian languages. Thanks a lot.

    • Dear readers,

      The words which i have used like PIRATICAL OR PLUNDERING have the meaning “appreiciation” and cordial relationship” and exchange of words for trade and cultural promotion in ancient tamizhakam with other countries of this world. They do not have any other meaning..

      Since tamizh had gone into other cultures it has the ability to get back those words by proununcing or adding

      “sha”, “fa”, “gha”, “bha”, “jha” “zha” etc. mixing extra strong tone.

    We can not argue with people that which language is first and oldest. Only one thing i observed is only telugu people can speak any other languages easily and fluently. Because Telugu is very critical language to pronounce. It may look similar to kannada and few wods with tamil. Tamilians and malayalis can not speak any other languages fluently because its language it self is addicted to the tongue with minimum folds. Speak Telugu and try to speak other languages it will be very easy. I tried as kannadiga.

No verses would help the child bitten by the snake but applying the siddha balm only. Reality sometimes get twisted or moulded to create an illusion among people. So, dont be supersticious.

    • Dear Tamil,

      WHO IS GOD? Only the five powerful sources like AIR, FIRE, LAND, WATER AND SKY are the one which are ruling us. Can any one stop ferocious hurricane? Can any one stop forest fire? can any one stop earth quake? can any one stop the ever powerful nature of tsunami? and can any one stop the sky from showering the most powerful heat or non-stop rain? DO WE HAVE CAPACITY TO STOP THEM? NO…..NEVER……….

      Historic temples in gujarat went deep into the core of this earth many years before. The palace of Krishna had gone deep into the ocean, the whole area of DWARAKA is sleeping in deepest ocean The pillars of the palace are still there. The KUMARI KANDAM is a lost continent and DHANUSH KODI also. Even then people have faitth. Its because from the beginning itself these five powers had been so important for people, they started worshipping because of fear and respect. It was there source of life also.

      HUMAN BRAIN was in the beginning started worshipping without any selfish purposes. Later on for the sole aim to make it a profitable business, the crooked brain was thinking of exploiting the people. There is no need for God. But, people are very very supersticious about so many things like darkness, evil spirits, diesease and many other things like obtaining wealth and fame and name also. Thats where he FAILS.

      Even if you have a doubt about something its enough for the person with evil mind. If you are sure about anything there is no problem at all. If he ask you to think and ask someone else for clarifying then the person who would go to clear the matter is finished FOREVER.

      IF THERE IS FAITH THERE IS NO NEED FOR GOD.
      IF THERE IS FAITH THERE IS NO GOD.

      The athiest are also keeping this point but their explaining the matter is different and make the people with religious beliefs irritated. We do not see and no one ever had seen the exact FORM of God so, the athiest are saying why there is a need for an idol? He is OMNISCIENT. Indirectly they are saying this.

      When we can not stop cancer, aids and so many uncurable ailments and when we can not stop the wrath of the nature why are we following a faith. The place so calm and peaceful is needed for all to get away from all the agonies. THIS VERY NEED OF THE HUMANS ARE EXPLOITED IN THE NAME OF RELIGION. if the religion is helping all people who are in need of food to survive and cover their body with cloth or for shleter then there is no problem. But make them dwell in the room full of darkness is a sin and we are celebrating all the sinners. This is what the REALITY.

      GOD IS FORMLESS, JUST LOOK AT THE SKY HE IS NO WHERE. JUST LOOK AT THE NATURE. HE IS NO WHERE. BUT……BUT……HE ….OR….. IT IS “SOMEWHERE”.

      As i said earlier darkness and fear makes God. Thats why the villagers worship “Krama thevathai”…(village Gods) the Gods who are protecting their villages

It would show its hatredness for divine power surround. We can not blame the villagers for having so many deities…different forms but for only one divine power.. They are surrounded by trees so huge that makes darkness and create shadows too. This subject of holy spirits and evil spirits is something different and deep understanding is the must.

    • Dear Asian,

      The topic is about Which one is oldest language “Tamizh or Sanskrit”. We dont have to prove the fact that tamizh is the oldest one. But since people protested we had to gather informations to prove. Otherwise there is not problem at all. In the cities the way or the style of speaking of tamizh may change but in the deep south cities of tamizh nadu the same kind of language is spoken but with different style and tone and expressions. The ancient tamizh is still alive in the form of speech, stories, both folk and film songs, poetry, stories, drama, novels and for debate also.

      In the cities also it is alive when actors on stage play the real life historical stories of old world charm. In schools and colleges also students use the ancient tamizh for competitions. So, even after getting influence from people from various countries tamizh is spoken by people. The root is still FRESH and STRONG. It is living not only in tamizh nadu but also in singapore, malaysia, sri lanka and africa, mauritious, china etc.etc.. It is not a language used for a particular ritual ceremony or for imposing doctrines. It is the language of the tamizh people of all man man caste. We are not selfish about keeping the language for ourself. It is for all. Thats why it is LIVING. Since ages, for promoting trade and culture it was used to communicate, thats why we came in to contact with different ancient countries.

      Comparing tamizh which was spoken by whole mass of this country with a language which was spoken by brahmins only itself is a waste of time. BLESSING IN DISGUISE. I think because of my curiosity i came to this site accidently and i came to know a lot of matters unknown to me about tamizh. Though i have some memories fresh in my mind about tamizh culture and history i never expected that i could find fabulous historical background of tamizh and its association with other people of this world. I studied about VEERAMAMUNIVAR in my school several years before.

      So, the topic of which one is oldest tamizh or sanskrit is explained

No Ram mandir. Leave the humans alone and let them live a happy life here in tamizhnadu atleast. Kanyakumari is watching you all, she woke up already. Try to spread “peaceful atmosphere”. No more destruction of mosques and church and burning humans.
