“You look like a monkey, and you act like one, too!” and other book reviews

The quoted phrase is the headline in today’s Seattle Times for my review of Our Inner Ape: A Leading Anthropologist Explains Why We Are how We Are by Frans de Waal. I love it!

Slightly different versions of the review appeared in five newspapers, but only one had room to run my opening limerick, which you will find by following this link.

This has been a good weekend for my book reviews. My review of Inner Ape also appeared in the Dallas Morning News with another great headline, “Turns out we’re all chimps off the old block.”

And the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel ran my review of Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife by Mary Roach, whose earlier Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers was a surprise best-seller in 2003.

Another recent addition to my book review site is The Planets by Dava Sobel.

I put this blog entry under “anthropology” for lack of a better heading. All three books, including The Planets, connect with human ancestry and culture.

Enjoy!
