Program of interest to Pittsburgh area readers of Science Blog

Rediscover Physics through the lives of ten remarkable individuals as yours truly, Science Blogger and author Fred Bortz, describes “Ten Decades, Ten Physicists: A History of Physics in the Twentieth Century” on September 19, 2007 at the Monroeville (PA) Public Library from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

The program developed from my latest book Physics: Decade by Decade in the Facts on File Twentieth Century Science series.

Here are the program details from the library’s web site.

Program summary:

As the 20th century began, most physicists were confident that only slight refinements of theories and a few critical experiments were needed to complete their understanding of the universe. They could not have been more wrong. Instead of tying up a few loose ends, physicists pulled on a few snags and watched the theoretical fabric of their science unravel. It would take most of the new century to reweave it, and the process would require them to redefine almost everything they thought they understood about matter and energy, space and time, and waves and particles.

Join Monroeville resident and local author Fred Bortz as he describes the unfolding of a new and unimagined universe through the eyes and lives of Albert Einstein, Ernest Rutherford, Wolfgang Pauli, Lise Meitner, Richard Feynman, John Bardeen, Murray Gell-Mann, Luis Alvarez, Stephen Hawking, and Leon Lederman.
