Drunk and amorous

This from Baltimore Sun science writer, Dennis O’Brian:

Researchers at Penn State say that getting flies drunk heightens their sex drive to a point where males either can’t tell or don’t care about the sex of the mate they’re pursuing — drunken males chased females and males alike. They also bump into each other and bump into the walls of their glass enclosure.

More about the research is posted on The Sun’s science and technology blog Science Matters.

Quick Note Before You Read On.

ScienceBlog.com has no paywalls, no sponsored content, and no agenda beyond getting the science right. Every story here is written to inform, not to impress an advertiser or push a point of view.

Good science journalism takes time — reading the papers, checking the claims, finding researchers who can put findings in context. We do that work because we think it matters.
