Heart and Stress

This week’s Newsweek has featured an article related to heart health. The guidelines promote maintaining an ideal body weight, lipid levels and proper diet. Additionally, it also recommended that people avoid smoking cigarettes, as this alone is a major risk factor for major life-threatening events.

The October 3, 2005 issue of Newsweek offers up some new advice, which has been promoted by psychologists and psychiatrists for years. It suggests that physical health may not be enough to protect the heart from damage. While it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle, personal happiness may also play a factor in the future of our health. it states the impact personal emotions can exert on health.

On a side note, this is a fact we have known for years. Laughing a perfectly natural reponse to humor, which causes the vasculature system to vasodilate. So you really want to stay healthy, share a good laugh with a friend after your workout. :-)

Quick Note Before You Read On.

ScienceBlog.com has no paywalls, no sponsored content, and no agenda beyond getting the science right. Every story here is written to inform, not to impress an advertiser or push a point of view.

Good science journalism takes time — reading the papers, checking the claims, finding researchers who can put findings in context. We do that work because we think it matters.
