quantum materials

An illustration of a quantum system that was simulated by both classical and quantum computers. The highlighted sections show how the influence of the system’s components is confined to nearby neighbors.

Scientists Create New Path to Quantum Magnetic Materials

Variations in chemical composition create spatial disorder in the superconducting properties of the cuprate superconductor La1.83Sr0.17CuO4, represented by the different colored circles. This disorder affects interlayer tunneling, which can be detected through the isolated Josephson echo using angle-resolved two-dimensional terahertz spectroscopy.

Terahertz Light Pulses Unveil Superconductor Secrets

Schematic of the in situ growth of carbon dots.

Breakthrough Material Brings Eco-Friendly Methanol Conversion Within Reach

Measurement setup, in which mid-infrared and visible beams are focused onto the optoelectronic device. Insert: Image of the device on which picosecond current pulses are launched, transported and detected.

Photo-induced superconductivity on a chip

Luiz Santos, assistant professor of physics at Emory University, is senior author of the study.
