  • Media coverage affects perceptions of climate change   1 day 5 hours ago

You don't actively see new stations doing much about global warming. Yes, you'll see them report on CO2 emissions somewhat frequently, but who cares. To the average person that doesn't mean much, it doesn't affect their every day life, their income, where and how they live... etc. To see actual change the media would almost have to be accusatory in their findings. Seek out actual corporations, car manufactures, aerosol manufactures and whatnot. Bring the attention on the producers rather than consumers.

Politicians need to be affected as well. The media needs to be a focus on these people, so that actual legislation might be heard that can then affect these producers. Unfortunately that news just doesn't sell as well as sex scandals and murder...

  • Spearmint tea -- A possible treatment for hairy women   1 day 6 hours ago

Ladies if you had any idea how many straight men (all kinds) love female body hair. It makes me sad to read that a natural thing like hair makes you’ll so miserable.
I’m a bit older but considered muscular and attractive by females from 20’s to 60’s.
Almost all of my girlfriends have been hairy. Over half have been models. I’m not bragging but I’ve never had any trouble finding an attractive girlfriend. The reason that they were all hairy is because that’s what I was looking for.
Now that I’ve been single for about a year, I have a hard time finding a girlfriend that isn’t a shaved, plucked “Barbie.” Almost all of my hairy girlfriends have been shocked to find that at least half of straight guys get turned on by hairy women. There is no such thing as too hairy.
Wow, if any of you are over 18 and want a very attractive guy that would go nuts over your hair e –mail thinnice@yahoo.com

  • One in 50 teenagers still wet the bed   1 day 7 hours ago

I remember when I was 15, thinking "surely it will stop by the time I'm 16. It's got to, I'm too old." I'm 20 now, and I used to feel the same as you did. "I believed that no guy will ever want to date a girl that wets the bed."

But I'm married, now, and my husband could care less that I wet the bed. I told him when we were engaged, and it didn't bother him. It's such a relief to me, because I always wondered how I could get married with my problem!

But if he loves you, he won't care. (besides, HE'S not the one getting wet). He doesn't mention my problem, and, in fact, forgets about it most of the time (unless I mention it). He knows it's just a bodily function thing, and it's not my fault. I don't wake him up when I have an incident (on purpose or otherwise). I simply replace the towel I have on my "bed wetting pad," and go back to sleep within 5 minutes. I've got a very fast and clean system, and it works great.

It shouldn't be a problem for you. If the guy loves you, the issue won't bother him at all. But if it does bother him, a guy who loves you won't let silly thing like that keep you from him!

  • One in 50 teenagers still wet the bed   1 day 7 hours ago

I'm a 20 year old married female, and I still wet the bed occasionally. I used to think it corresponding with my monthly cycle... but the truth is that it's somewhat random, and I can wet the bed 3+ times a month.

I've developed a pretty easy system of rules for me to follow in order to decrease wet problems/clean-up:

    1) Don't drink water for at least two hours before you go to sleep. Drink tons of water during the day, of course, but avoid it like the devil at night.
    2) The last thing you do at night before you sleep should be using the bathroom. Hopefully, that'll get rid of all the liquids in you. No liquids-no bed wetting.
    3) Get a liquid resistant pad ("bed wetting pad") to sleep on top of. This should protect your sheets if you have an incident. I actually use a pad with a folded towel on top of it. Then, if something happens, it's really easy to exchange the wet towel with dry ones and go straight back to sleep. VERY fast, and very clean. And, also, very concealable. I've taken this bad/towel system to various sleepovers and etc., and it hasn't failed me yet. You can hide it in your sleeping bag, and arrange it properly when no-one is around No one even needs to know!
    4) I've also noticed that many times when I wake up to an "incident," my dream warned me of it ahead of time. My dream will shift towards bathrooms, and using bathrooms. If you notice that you are having a bathroom dream, wake up IMMEDIATELY, and go and use the REAL bathroom (or your dream self will settle for an imaginary one).
    5) There are supposed to be various ways to "train" your bladder, but I haven't really tried them myself. My best guess, though, would be to drink as many liquids as humanly possible during the day--and none at night. Maybe your bladder will expand?

So for those of you who are older bed wetters... you're not alone. It's a bit odd that we haven't stopped when everyone else did, but we can still be normal and happy.

  • New device enables early detection of cancerous skin tumors -- Ben Gurion U.   1 day 8 hours ago

Thanks for a great article. I wonder how long it will take for this technology to develop. I believe that dermatoscopes have become very popular in the UK, used in various popular day clinics. But this is not a solution for skin lesions that are free of pigment or too small to be noticed at a routine examination.

  • Top 50 Things To Do To Stop Global Warming   1 day 10 hours ago

I think there should be a reality show that contestants have to be the most "Earth Friendly" to win the competition. That way people get a chance to be shown how to take care of our planet in a fun way. Plus, our reality shows besides American Idol are the same thing.

But your idea is good too, smazsyr

You think, you have a real brain in critisizing others...........Just stop your nonsense critics............

IF ANYONE HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

  • Blacks, Whites Have Same Fear Reaction When Seeing a Black Face   1 day 19 hours ago

Human nature. Of course Blacks are more prone to commit violent crimes, check American history. Do we really think that bringing blacks over here against their will wasn't going to have any negative repercussions? Yeah I know the "race card" isn't politically correct anymore because its the truth, just like black crime statistics. When you rape, murder, rob, assault, and enslave a people, the first chance they get they're gonna return the favor, except when blacks do it, they're sent to prison for their crimes. You're probably saying to yourselves "Why do people always bring up the hundreds of years of slavery and the legal discrimination that followed slavery? Get over it already!" Sure, as soon as you read the Willie Lynch letter. I think its a testament to black people in America that despite the crime statistics blacks are as peaceful and decsent as they are!

  • Spearmint tea -- A possible treatment for hairy women   1 day 21 hours ago

I turned 15 back in June and that's when I noticed a few (less than 3) black hair under my bellybutton. I was able to wear bikinis throughout summer but when school started in Septemeber, more and more hair started to grow on my chest, abdomen, face, and neck! And there's so much hair around my nipples it's not even funny! It looks as if there's a 1.5cm thick black ring around my nipple! There's like random strands of hair on my boobs too, it's so disgusting and annoying.
I can't even wear speghetti straps/v-neck shirts/tank tops, because the hair on my chest is extremely noticable! I don't think I'll ever be able to wear bikinis/swim again.
I'm not superficial, and I do understand that alot of people are suffering from diceases that are far more serious or might actually affect their physical health but I'm really worried about my excessive hair-growth and I actually have to say, I kinda hate myself for having so much hair on me.
And i met this guy at a party recently and we kinda hooked up, he asked me out on a date last saturday and it was a lot of fun and I really like him, but I'm not sure if I should go out with him, cause I'm a horny drunk and I like almost had sex with this guy at a party a year ago. I'm pretty sure he'd freak if he saw my hairy torso and he would probably never talk to me again. It's really embarrasing in a way too. So I'm really worried and i'm guessing it's not the right time for a relationship cause of the friggin hair...I know this sounds really superficial, but I noticed that most guys (especially the ones in their teens) go for the looks, and I actually talked to some of my guy friends and they told me that they really care about the girl's appearance so I'm just really worried and I'm kinda depressed in a way too...

My book,"Stimulating Immune Function to Kill Viruses" has entered the Amazon system. The implications of the suppression of the availability of immunostimulation should be obvious

If SDs are effective against colon cancer could a parallel line of investigation be of value? Would a food product mixing SDs and oatmeal be of use as a possible line of therapy? Might a good probiotic / bacterial supplement be of additional benefit?

    Tadeusz,

If you read the review linked to in my most recent post, you will discover I didn't like the book. If anyone clicks through from my review web site and buys it, I earn a few pennies--not enough to justify calling that an advertisement.

As for the previous posts, where I mention my own book, I admit that I want people to know about it. It is one piece of my background that gives me credibility in these discussions.

At this point, I have no reason to believe that my posts have enhanced sales of that book, since it is bound and priced for the library market ($49.50 retail).

    Signing off!

  • Finite possibilities of the finite element method   2 days 2 hours ago

    popiol:

First off, the likelihood that your "inputs" will be "exact", in any "real world" case (measurements, and/or results from prior computations), is essentially zero. (A set of cases of order zero, to be exact.) So, for all practical purposes, one must consider all inputs to be inexact.

As for relative vs. absolute errors. The nature of present computer floating-point representations makes it such that the smallest possible errors (half a unit in the last place, 1/2 ulp) scales with the magnitude of the value (this is exactly true, when only considering the exponent part when determining "magnitude", this means there is a step function like behavior of the absolute minimal error). So the relative error is the most meaningful error measure, since even the absolute error scales almost exactly the same as the relative error.

Additionally, the nature of both the relative and absolute errors of division are precisely the same as for multiplication. (At least so long as division is done according to the IEEE specifications.) So, once again, your arguments for "only polynomials" based upon an ill-conceived appeal to present computer architecture, fails muster.

(Besides, are you aware of the issues with regard to numerical stability of polynomial computations? How about even the far simpler case of just summing a set of numbers? These issues further belie the argument for "only polynomials".)

Now, I'm not sure what to make of your comment about "the domain becomes a part of the range"... Any spline basis, including B-splines, maps from some domain into some, possibly other, range (just as with any function). However, since the "rational" part of Non-Uniform Rational B-splines (NURBs) is only about taking a ratio of B-splines, the modification, if you will, occurs wholly within the range, and has nothing whatsoever to do with the domain. The same is true if you simply want to look at is as replacing y(x) with u(x)/v(x).

On the other hand, you are certainly free to consider leaving this ratio like "reformulation" (y(x) → u(x)/v(x)) to a separate issue from "the approximation method (as long as it's a general method)", at least so long as facilities are provided for the appropriate restrictions on the ratio functions* (such as constraints on the sum of squares of the coefficients of the denominator functions). Given this proviso, I have no issue with separating this from the rest of the method. Just don't try to represent this choice as anything more than it is: a choice/preference.

    David

    * Actually, since any given problem, presented to your "solver", may have any number of additional constraints on the functions, and/or their coefficients, such facilities really should be provided as a part of a general "solver".

I think the result is a little bias , I will agree with the result if they were also conduct in place like Africa
On crimes, don't forget about child molesters and kidnapping. Italian Mobs commited lots of crimes as well. Nazi killing of Jews is crime.
On Other note, a lots of black men are in Jail for crime that whites might not put in Jail for e.g drugs white kids use more drug than black. Blacks use weed but rest of the drugs are used by whites. I love all people white, yellow, purple. I believe that God created everyone black or white for a reason, and I believe we need each other.

  • Vaccine for herpes in final trial phase   2 days 5 hours ago

This original article was published in 2004 and quite a lot has changed since then. While there is still no vaccine for genital herpes, there are vaccines in clinical trials now in 2009. Thankfully two vaccines are being tested: A phophylactic vaccine, designed to protect those that are HSV2 negative from contracting herpes, and a therapeutic vaccine, a treatment for those of us that are already HSV2 positive.

While we wait for these vaccines (and it could be years), we still have many treatment options available to us. Generic Valtrex is now available and is quite effective at viral suppression, and there are many, many immune boosting and natural treatments coming to market every day.

Herpes does not define you and in no way makes you damaged. Stay positive and keep educated on what is going on with herpes treatments. Don't be afraid to seek out a new Doctor if you current doctor is unsupportive or lacks current herpes knowledge. Take care.
