First blog ever

I suppose it’s somewhat fitting that the first time I write a blog, it’s not on myspace or livejournal or any of the thousands of other sites. It’s fitting that it’s scienceblog. Write on what you know. Or like. Or pretend to know.
I’ve been reading this site for 2 months now and have decided that I’d like to be more involved than just a casual observer. As a bit of background, molecular and cellular biology are kind of my bread and butter. Mustard & biscuits, maybe. I work in HIV research in Research Triangle Park, NC.
I look forward to learning and sharing what I know in this interesting and fun scientific community.

Quick Note Before You Read On.

ScienceBlog.com has no paywalls, no sponsored content, and no agenda beyond getting the science right. Every story here is written to inform, not to impress an advertiser or push a point of view.

Good science journalism takes time — reading the papers, checking the claims, finding researchers who can put findings in context. We do that work because we think it matters.

If you find this site useful, consider supporting it with a donation. Even a few dollars a month helps keep the coverage independent and free for everyone.

  1. So I don’t even know where to begin. I thought I would check this site out and see what others might possibly have to say about science. I’m finishing my bachelors in science and education and I’m trying different ways to introduce technology in the classroom. This is intriguing to me because the blog allows someone without any expertice in the field to express an opinion on the subject.

Someone recently told me that science and life are treated as two separate concepts by most scientists, including educators in science. I guess my goal as a teacher is going to try and eliminate this divide and introduce science as a major facet of life. If I can show students how science affects them, rather than having them memorize the concept, I think I might be able to make a difference.
